Towing and Insurance - Wee Willie Winkie
Ladies and Gentlemen,

I need to tow a car next weekend with a rope (MG conked out at the weekend), and I’m unsure as to the requirements of insurance.

When being towed, is the MG covered under the insurance of the towing car, as it is ‘attached’? My girlfriend will be piloting the MG, and she isn’t insured to drive it. I’m just concerned that she will be driving uninsured, even though I’m in control of most of her movements, so to speak.

Cheers.

She most definately WILL be driving uninsured if the vehicle is not being towed with it's front/rear wheels off the ground.

Plus of course she'll be behind you, so any shunt is likely to involve her hitting your back-end. And in a back-end shunt, who is almost always classed as the at-fault party? ;)

I'm sure you could get hold of your insurer, tell them the circumstances, and get a one day cover note for a few quid.

Yes - I thought as much.

I think I'm going to need to have a re-think!
