My little fiesta is losing oil and i don't know where its going. I don't see any traces of oil lying under the motor even when its running and i've checked the spark plugs to see if theres any oil on them, but theres nothing. Theres also no blue smoke from the exhaust. Could anybody out there please give me some indication of where this oil is going to? Cheers

Hi.
How much is it losing.
Have you got the right grade of oil in the engine in the first place.
Put an old newpaper under the engine part of the car on the floor overnight and if there is oil on it then trace it to the engine.

Mileage ??? Get someone to follow you on a journey so they can see what your emmisions are like. Regards Peter

You can burn quite a lot of oil without there being any blue smoke. If its definitely not leaking outside the only other place it could conceivably go might be into the gearbox. But once it had found the same level as in the sump it wouldnt go on leaking. So everything points to the engine burning oil, have a garage do an emissions test when the engine is hot (at least a 10 mile run) and that will confirm it, or not.

When I had a Fiesta the same 1.1 as your's, this happened to me and I was losing quite a bit of oil. The problem was the gasket rocker cover (hope i've got that right). If you look at the cork seal around the cover of the engine it might be covered in oil, mine was and that was the fault. It is easily replaced and cost a fiver.

At 87,000 miles, my wife's 1.1 Mk3 Fiesta is using oil at about a litre per 5,000 mles. There is no obvious smoke from the exhaust. The most disconcerting loss of oil occurred at around 75,000 miles when the sump pan rusted through and became 'porous'. It had to be replaced. My mender said it is not that uncommom.

The valve seals are probably worn allowing oild to seep down and be burnt. It will be worst at start up (oil drip over halt or on the overrun- vacuum).
Can be replaced without removing cylinder head.. using rope stuffed into bore through plug holes to prevent valves dropping.
A very common failing..
