National Tyres are offering an oil and filter change for £15 at the mo. If you order online you get 10% off. i think its Duckhams QXR they use. cheaper than buying it in the shops!
price incudes filter as well.
no more messing about trying to change oil for me again!!
dont no how they do it fot this price, unless there buying in huge bulk?
|
Think I might just whizz the old VW T4 in for its 3000 interval change! Let them fight with the steel undertray, the dustbin sized oil filter and 6-and-a-bit litres of QXR for £15 whooppeee!!
Andrew
Simplicate and add lightness!!

How do they do it? Yes, the oil is bought in bulk: they have 200+ litre drums in my local Kwik-Fit. They don't charge out at the common main-dealer rates of £60?90 per hour. If you don't want the hassle of doing it yourself (particularly the disposal bit), changing oil at National or Kwik-Fit is a no brainer . . . but watch them, because brains can be a bit scarce among their staff (see elsewhere for the story of how a local Kwik-Fit fitter drained my auto-box). With reference to a similar thread in Discussion, make sure the filter they use is correct; there shouldn't be a problem, because they have to be able to guarantee the job.
|
oh and be prepared for the usual tracking adjustments, shocks etc anything they can try and screw you for :(
|
just go for the oil change and ignore the fact they want to stick a new exhaust , 4 new tyres, and perhaps some new breaks on your car!
thing i hate about modern cars are those stupid undertrays, its more annoying getting those off than changing the oil!
p.s. the oil change is limited to 5 litres, still not a bad price tho. Order on their website and you save 10%.
|
The Kwik-Fit prices are fixed and not limited to any quantity of oil. That's why it's such a bargain for me to get 7.5 litres of Mobil 1 there for my MB.
|
Kwik Fit told me that Mobil1 is now £39 not £34 - still cheap though.
I'm curious how National can do an oil change on line...? :-)
|
Smokie
Correct. They tried to charge that last time I went there, but it didn't take much persuading to revert to the £34 I had paid before. At £39 it's still cost effective for my 7.5 litre MB, but no longer for my 5.5 litre Golf VR6. As I reported in December:
Regular users of Mobil 1 may like to know that it can be obtained from
www.oil-store.co.uk/
at £5.51 per litre in 4x4 litre lots (£22.04 per pack, total £88.08, including shipping). Can that price be beaten in the UK?
|
I've used National for oil and filter change on both our cars for a couple of years now, i've never had any problems and i've always been impressed by the efficiency of the service. Oil is Duckhams semi-synth and is a good spec. The chap who does it remembers me and the cars now as I'm always there same time first thing on a saturday morning. Yes i've been offered brakes, tyres, exhausts, but politely refuse as I can usually better their prices elsewhere. I suspect the advertised £15 deal is a loss-leader to get you and your credit card into the garage...

Just had a look at www.oil-store.co.uk/ . With shipping and VAT it comes to £122.29, Costco is about £26.00 for four litres with VAT.

RoadDevil
Well, you're right and I was mistaken. Apologies for that. I thought I had checked it carefully.
|
just had it changed today and was very pleased with the result. had the usual sales pitch on tyres etc but ignored that.
|
I tell 'em up front not to bother trying on the sales thing, usually ends up being taken well. Leads me in nicely to going to watch the action too (just to make sure they do it right...)
|
for infor they use 'WIX' oil filters which are a reputable brand.
|
Never heard of WIX oil filters!?
Yes, this is a loss-leader type of marketing.....it's getting people into the places, isn't it? Just a shame it's a bunch of tightwads! /jk

So, how does not using a genuine filter effect the warranty? From what I remember some filters are cheaper because the non return type valve is excluded.
|
A non genuine filter would probably void your warranty.
Both Quik fit and National use Coopers filters which are well recognised in the trade
