I have an old non-smart phone with a large SIM card, which will not fit into a modern model. If I buy a new smart phone (with pay as you go) can I transfer my number and contacts to the nano card in the new phone?
I've just been through this with Mrs BJ who is a fully paid up member of the Luddite society and only has an ancient Nokia flip phone which has an oldish style SIM slot (about 25mm long). She was effectively forced to move from O2 as they are getting rid of PAYG and they were trying to corner her into a monthly contract.
Managed to copy her contacts to the phone from the SIM (and it would be possibly to copy back to a new SIM if required) , then issue a PAC code request and she's now a happy Giffgaff customer with a new SIM (which can be reduced down if needed) - all her contacts are intact on the phone which has the original phone number now.
PS I'm already a Giffgaff customer so we both RECEIVED £5 each when we made her SIM live!
PPS Actually this has reminded me to take a backup copy of the contacts to her SIM in case the antique dies!! I get brownie points for keeping it alive. You can see why I had to find a car with buttons/ knobs for car basic functions (ignoring Android Auto etc).
