i bought a car from a garage and traded my car in last Friday . The finance was taken for £25 for the new car and my trade it was going to be paid as cashback as the outstanding finance on my tradin car was paid off using my Visa card. The garage have my trade in and I have the new car they have not replied to any call until Friday when they said they were not happy with the car and said it would need to go to auction and they also said it had an engine management light on and that a diagnostic test showed things had been switched off. On handing the car over there was no light s , the garage signed to say they were happy with the car but are now saying it needs a new key but I did say I only had one but happy to pay for another .roof rails ( I have these) . They wanted a service history and mot this was all provided . The garage manager said I wasn’t paying this out I stopped the money coming to you and said he was running a diagnostic test then hung up on Friday and didn’t call back . What are my rights ?? So there was absolutely no engine light on when we handed the car over and my local garage who I fully trust said there has been no warning lights switched off. I genuinely had no bother and had services don and it was mot done in June . It’s a 19 plate with 38k miles

I would say that if you have a paper signed by the garage saying they are happy, you are in the clear. As a private seller you are not liable unless they can accuse you of misrepresentation.

And contact your Visa cc to state that you are in dispute with the Dealer and they are trying to withhold monies for the PX - I hope it wasnt a debit card

And contact your previous finance company to make them aware that the dealer is trying to backout of the Px

Then write a recorded delivery letter to the Dealer Principle staing that you require full payment of any PX or its finance cleared

Dont get involed in any phone conversations unless you record them and tell the other party it is being recorded
