Got a van I've had problems with.

Changed fuel filter topped the the filter up with diesel, ran for a few weeks now won't start.

Been told it doesn't have a lift pump only a high pressure pump in the engine.

No faults have come up, tried using a hand primer pump on the pipe that goes into the filter with a blue tag believe that comes from the tank? It's allowing me to pull diesel up that way but nothing seems to be getting to the injectors. Also I don't hear any priming noise from the pump when I turn on ignition. I've tried easy start, sometimes it starts but just cut out within a second. Help

Do you know the engine type ? Is it a Y 17 Dt ?

Yes it's the Y17dt

The most common fault on these is a failed diesel pump control module. This is located at the rear of the engine and bolted to the engine block . This usually give a fault code for spill valve . There’s no electric pump on these .

Oh ok don't suppose there's away of testing it? I've tested all fuses relating to ecu and their all fine. Yes I know the one you mean I see it when I was changing my starter motor I'll see if I can get a new one or a recon one. Is that the edu? I know the ecu is on top of the engine in mine. I think the edu is quite easy to change.

Could be called the edu . Very easy to change and they are not coded . 4 x 10 mm bolts. New part was over £600 . Plenty of people repair these .

Yeah think it is,think I'll take it off check connection and see if I can get a second hand one or mine fixed, it's leading me to believe it's that mate. Thank you very much

Thing is I can't seem to find a scanner to read codes, did the pedal test and no flashing light for codes. I've purchased an opcom obd11 interface usb v 5.1 driver installs on my pc but that's as far as it goes. I've ordered another for opel maybe that will work. Don't know if my port works with any of them. Don't really want to replace the edu to find out its the pump. I've been offered a re-con for £80 which I thought was good. I could sell it for more if it's not that lol. Thanks though mate

This diesel vehicle is not obd2 compliant, so generic happy scanners won’t work. You will need a machine with greater functionality but that means spending a lot more money.

Without sounding too thick lol

Is the fuel pump next to the edu? It's just I'm trying to chase the leak off pipe that goes to the pump, I know the Leake off pipe comes from the injectors. It's just I want to connect a hand primer to see if I can get diesel to the injectors that way to rule out an air problem.

The fuel pump is at the back of the engine next to the edu module. You will need to get a hand primer bulb hooked into the fuel line to suck diesel up to the pump . Access to the spill pipe system isn’t going to work.

Is that the one that runs from the tank to the pump? So would it be best to jack the van up and do it from underneath where the fuel line goes into the pump? Sorry never really dealt with furl systems before.

You need to get a hand primer bulb between the filter and the pump .

I've done that mate and pumped fuel into a bottle and seems to come out OK that was the pipe that delivers the fuel to the filter or do you mean conect the priming bulb in between the pipe and connect to the filter then prime it?

Fitted a second hand edu and the b***** started first time no easy start required.

Thanks for all the help though.

At least I can say I've changed a edu and starter motor lol

I'm just trying to locate the throttle body now,if you could suggest a simple way of locating it?

These don’t have a throttle body . What are you trying to do ?
