I have just had two tyres replaced on the my Skoda Fabia tdi. I am just interested in knowing what would be a typical UK price for this (I live in Spain) Two Michelin Energy 185.60 R14 H, balancing, 2 valves, balancing, wheel alignment (needed!) total cost, inc VAT 188.62 Euros or about 130 quid. Oh - natioal chain similar to Kwik Fit, labour rate 30.02 euros per hour - about £20.75 and they checked the brake pads & discs!

Er - only one lot of balancing - typos:(

Online from mytyres.co.uk
Price of tyres not fitted or balanced £46-20

Hi, my friend
I work for a company that has 1 or 2 things to do with your car.
In the UK we have Costco, that supplies tyres, balances them after fitting, disposes of the worn-out tyre and charges you about £33 for the privilege.
This is about half of what VAG dealers charge.
Your car has the tyres that most Mk 111 Golfs have.
I can only say this because block-exemption has almost died.
What am I on about? Who am I?
Bonkers.

You have to pay to join Costco.
|
Buy a tyre and you will save the cost of membership. Get some food and wine while you are there and the tyres will be practically free.

And here is one of the things that will change this year....
>>I work for a company that has 1 or 2 things to do with your car.
Say who it is and stop with this worthless and irritating cryptic commentary. Maybe you don\'t want to or can\'t say who it is. Fair enough, but then what is the point of the above comment ?
>>What am I on about? Who am I?
>>Bonkers.
Cut out the rubbish psuedo \"crazy\" stuff. It was barely funny from Kenny Everett, it is most certainly not funny from you in here.
Begin writing here as a normal person who writes straight-forward, understandable notes rather than this cryptic, oh-so-crazy stuff or find somewhere else to be.
I will delete each and every one of your notes which I feel contains more rubbish than sense.
Happy New Year and welcome back.
Mark.

Thank you Mark,
You have confirmed to me what my colleagues told me, and as an Englishman working abroad, I had discounted.
I am a Group Manager with Europe's biggest car corporation. Very easy to check.
My post related to my concern about being able to buy tyres from Costco, an American retailer of household goods. They are significantly cheaper than tyres at car dealerships within my own franchise.
Please ask yourself why.
I stated this. You said I was cryptic, yet my last post (see "Forum Search" explains exactly who I am.
VW Corporation of America did the risk assessment on my post, and said it would not look good for a Senior Manager to say that a retailer was supplying items cheaper than our UK dealers.
My humour is appreciated in Germany and most of Europe, but not in the UK.
Very well. Please delete my account. I will never come here again, and neither will any of my team.
Many thanks,
Sean Kirby

Are you serious? Haven't they got better things to do?
Very well. Please delete my account. I will never come here again, and neither will any of my team.
I guess the Back Room will just have to get by.....

Shame - I quite enjoyed Sean's style, and I believe he made very useful contributions, albeit somewhat cryptic sometimes. Always thought of him as being like whatisname in Silence of the Lambs.
CostCo compare remarkably well for tyres. I was quoted slightly less for a pair of Pirelli somethings fitted & balanced etc than National wanted for just one unbranded tyre. As CostCo were doing 4 for the price of 3 that month, I had one on every corner. Pays to shop around.

I'd pay money to see what they said about the "what am I on about, who am I, bonkers" bit.
I said that you should write sense and as an adult, forgetting the "crazy" & pointless stuff. If you feel unable to do that, then you're probably making the correct decision in not coming here anymore.
I shall not delete your account, there's no need.

Don't think the dilution of Block Exemption has got much to do with tyres - never was in the remit.
Quite a few VW dealers would take the old wheel to local fast-fit place and then charge customer 100% mark up.

Sean's humour is appreciated in Germany. Better not mention the War then!

My tyres also come from Costco. They are open to a deal - get a quote from somewhere else and they will try to beat it. I saved 10 quid a tyre on Micheldever Tyres price, and many people tell me Micheldever are the cheapest. I also didn't have to queue for hours at Costco like you do at Micheldever, well on a Saturday anyway. This saving alone more than covered the cost of membership, and I buy a lot of stuff there anyway. Well worth it if you are near one.
Mark, imho your comment to Sean is correct. Pity he went off in a huff but that is due only to his level of maturity. People seem to think that these are 'public' forums so anything goes. Not true. This forum, like all of them, is owned by somebody, and that somebody has the right to decide what is posted and by who.
(Whom? Probably correct but sounds really pretentious!)

Also, www.e-tyres.co.uk gave me a good price on my eco-contacts - very professional service, too.
