VW golf - Approved used car - with problems - Falkirk Bairn

A son bought a 2023 Golf from a VW Franchise - top of the range 7,000 miles over £40K.

Driving home there was a rumble and he thought it was a wheel bearing.

Back home he ran about in the car for 2 weeks until his local VW garage could look at it.

Wheel bearing it was BUT they pointed out the following

1) Bends on steering & suspension arms

2) Dent in sump

3) Bottom of radiator bent

Accident damage "overlooked by selling dealer"

He duly contacted the Lancashire dealer with the report, photos & video from his local dealer

"Nothing to do with us - our team raised no concerns over the condition of the car prior to sale"

He contacted VW HQ , with the same photos/videos as it was an "Approved VW Car"

VW HQ, to their credit, have arranged with the local VW outlet to do the remedial work on the car.

Major UK Chain with multiple Franchised Brands located all over the country - you would expect issues with back street dealers BUT a VW Franchise selling a top of the range car!!!!

Personally, I wouldn’t want to be owning that car so new with all that damage . Reject it immediately, do not accept any repairs.

Agreed - the previous owner clearly didn't want to continue to own it and so rejected it!

I must be getting old, £40+k for a second hand Golf? :-O

Assume it must be an "R"?

See, what I'd be wondering is why someone traded in a Golf R after less than a year and 7k miles?. Was it a repossessed personal lease deal?. If so, it would almost certainly have been driven hard. Was a demo?, same thing would apply.

Whatever the reason for the short first ownership[ it wouldn't suprise me if the bent items are the result of transit damage, low car (un)loaded by inexperienced person on sub standard transporting equipment.

The wheel bearing has me pondering though, no reason that should be failing, are there any signs on the failing bearing corner that the car has sat underwater? might be worth a good look underneath and under the bonnet see if there's a tide mark.

100% it's been either stolen, crashed and bodged or the original owner had more money than talent, crashed it then bodged it.

Reject NOW.
