Apart from the steering wheel being on the "wrong side" It's in good condition, No rust, garaged since new, low mileage, always serviced, Plenty of mechanical parts available in Baghdad.

It belongs to Youngrovergorl and is the first car her dad bought her.

Yes of course you should, you old romantic you...and long may a decent chap remain a romantic in a country now sadly devoid of such decent fellows.

It will need immediate rustproofing on arrival by someone who knows what they are doing, or needs to be garaged through the winters and only used on fine dry salt free roads. Does it have a heater? or does it have aircon only as some vehicles destined for such climes are often specified, getting a heater fitted wouldn't be a huge operation.

I think Japanese cars of that era are superb.

Hardly surprising both are in good nick with such a dry climate.

Whether or not you should import it would depend on the cost of doing so, but also how much sentimental value YRG places on the car. One thing though, if you do decide to import it, get some proper rust prevention underneath immediately!

Import it 100%. And rust proof it!

If it’s for sentimental read sons then why not? I get emotionally attached to cars too. Not sure of the procedures or costs involved, but it isn’t something that would command a great deal of demand in the UK or money, but I’m assuming that’s not important here? It looks good from the pic, and mechanically Toyota’s of this era were typically tough as old boots so it could be used daily - if correctly rust treated beforehand, and regularly polished. Be an interesting retro to take to shows etc.

May be a good idea to get costs for shipping and dvla nova documentation first . As it’s over 10 years old , it’s unlikely to need type approval. www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk/telling-...c

It will also need recommissioning. All rubber will have perished so new tyres and any flexible hoses. New battery of course and a change of all fluids. Might be best to get that sort of work done over there. I would expect it to be a lot cheaper there.

It belongs to Youngrovergorl ......

......so you'd better ask her! I very much doubt if her nostalgic romanticism is as great as yours. If she's got any sense (and if she's a medic that should not be in doubt) she'd flog it. In this case the past is clearly another country (after L.P. Hartley) and this particular car is just a piece of characterless 1980s automotive white goods, albeit a successful one. As said above, unless it's comprehensively rust protected on arrival, it won't last long here!
