I love this programme but just wondered how that guy can change the brakes without getting a spot of dirt on his white t shirt when I get covered in oil just pulling the dipstick out!

Clever editing?

I would like to know where they advertise the cars that they have refurbished? Has anyone ever seen one of those cars for-sale somewhere?

That a true.

Think they advertise on eBay but sometimes they sell to the trade like in the case of the Morgan.

But what amazes me is how easily the mechanic takes things apart with no rusty bolts etc.

And every car they buy seems to have a catalogue of problems like most of the cars I buy and cost a fortune to put right . But in their case they don’t take labour into consideration.

If you follow Mike Brewer on Twitter, he publicises them there.

Out of interest I have searched MOT history of some of the cars and the programme does what it does, but judging by advisories and failures following the work it isn't a full refurb by any means.

I suspect like most of the home makeover programs it is a triumph of initial selection (to find cars with interesting and obvious deficiencies) and selective editing.

This in no way diminishes the program although I find the happy chappie Mike Brewer tiresome at times. But it is clear they tend to fix only the evident faults, not complete a full restoration.

Even where the body is stripped for a full respray, the working mechanical parts seem to be refitted unrestored - in contrast to what a hobbyist may do in similar circumstances - replace all brakes, seals, hoses, boots + possibly overhaul carbs, suspension bushes, wheel bearings, etc etc

I seem to remember that Ed China did do a proper job: that may be why he left as the powers that be thought this was not very entertaining.

I believe Ed left as the company that makes it wanted to cut costs by filming less of what he did as it takes a lot of filming which costs time and money so he decided to move on to other things.

I’m gutted that the mot has expired on the blue Renault 5 GT Turbo in 2022 after all that work!

There were more scenes of Mike going to 3rd party companies to get parts refurbed or replaced. I assumed that it was all part of the show's owners to get more revenue by product / company placement.

Haha, I've done the same thing, and not many of the cars from older series are still on the road.

Fixing leaks, faulty fuel injectors etc is what we see week after week.

However, at the end of the programme the paintwork always has that "showroom new car look" despite never having had a re-spray (on camera).

I know there are lots of products out there that can improve paintwork but getting all the scratches and blemishes out seems a miracle.

Just watched the one where the Fiesta gets nicked. Some dreadful people about.
