I said this morning I would reply to the (now hidden) comments made in the EV thread overnight/early hours

No, "The HonestJohn" is no longer associated with the website. I thought most knew it fell into administration and was bought by Heycar.

Compared to others forums I think you will find that HJ is more tolerant of views than other sites.

Yes ORB has retired as a mod so for the time being it's just me. The mod team will be expanded but these things take time especially as the IT person mods used to deal with has moved on.

Heycar have their business priorities, it's probably fair to say the Backroom is not particularly high up the list as it's not directly revenue generating.

I do not have any desire to suppress discussions but whether we like it or not we need to reflect on what finances the website. I know some people disliked the phrase "anti-EV" I used, so let's describe them as threads that are not portraying EV in a positive light. I think some people are still struggling with the difference between the content of these threads and the number of them. It's the latter that I have been trying to address. In addition to that we've had a situation in the last few days where we've had several threads on the same article: two on the MG brake issue and three on the Tesla £9k insurance quote.

Moderators cannot create new sub-forums so the next best option is a separate EV thread where people can discuss all these EV articles. That way people can discuss them but for others who do not then it's not quite so 'in yer face' and looks better when viewing the forum to see a more balanced list of subjects.

As I've mentioned in the header post of the EV thread, there are some EV discussions that might continue to be better suited to a thread on their own and I gave two examples that sprung to mind. There might be others and discretion will be used.

Yes this is a bit of a compromise and like all compromises not all will be happy. We've had these separate threads before over the years, I see no reason why this one can't work. More to the point it has to work because I've largely come to the limit of how much time I can allocate to all this on top of my full-time work.

I will leave this open for now and will read the replies and probably lock it later.

Thanks for this explanation.

It’s a masterclass in making a very complex subject easy to understand. Well done.

Recent issues raised and ASK HJ - Maxime.

When you ask HJ a question whose face shows up when you have sent your question.

Guesses

I have just asked this questionI have been writing and reading the forum for about 10 years now and seen problems with kitchen sales and escorts, drug supplies and currency offers amongst others
Me and Sid (hubby) have seen the recent posts on the site being swamped (?) with bot registations and the mods unabl to do a lot about it. as well as having to moderate. I read in one post about the new mods, one of whom has retitre, d that Avant had asked them if they would be willing to help.

I am asking the question here as well as on the forum
Maxime

It's a valid question. What is happening.

Maxime, be careful not to inadvertently get the forum removed..

Thanks for the comments, they are appreciated. We've always tried to steer path that we feel is acceptable to the majority.

To be honest I rarely look at the main section of the website, keeping the Backroom tidy and dealing with admin is all I have time for. I don't know who's behind the "Ask HJ" facility except it will be one of the Editors.

Yes the spam is a pain but it seems to be make a big difference if last thing at night any suspicious accounts are deleted. It's not always easy to distinguish and I don't want to chop a genuine one so the occasional one will slip through.
