You should also check your fan belt is not slipping.

Sounds exactly like our Scenic's release bearing before the clutch was replaced. The driver was particularly vicious with his grand prix starts, hence clutch needed replacing with bearing by 18000. You would think that something on the engine was scraping against the bodywork in the engine bay is a way I would describe it - sort of a "chirrup" as you pulled away.

Sounds suspiciously familiar - previous owner was rental company, so good chance of misuse (funny choice of car to rent to practice grand-prix starts though...!) Guess I'd best take in to dealer before it gets worse then.

Sadly the clutch wasn't covered by the three year warranty. You can probably live with it for many thousands of miles until the bearing becomes too annoying to live with, particularly if the clutch is operating OK apart from the noise. I don't know for sure, but I suspect the clutch on a Scenic is not a 30 minute job to change as the Renault dealer wanted to book it in separately from a service for a whole day.

Clutch release bearing will chirp or squeal when you push the pedal down, glazed or thin clutch will do it as you release the clutch. Common on cars used round town and for the 400yard school run.

This is a common renault "problem?" Its the clutch. They make a slight squeel or chirp when you let them out to drive off. My scenic developed it at 20k miles, and did it for the next 26k miles with no other problems. Nicolles R5 did it for 20k miles with no problems. In my experience its a non problem.

Thanks for all this input, doesn't seem to be a problem apart from the noise which isn't excessive. Will leave and see how things develop, maybe mention it when next service due in about 6 months or so.
