I am not sure if this was discussed here, but for the last few years if you have library card it allows you to read thousands of publications like newspapers and magazines for free and in many languages using an app called Pressreader.

I couldn't believe my eyes how many automotive publications are still out there going strong!

This app goes on any device and has fairly good set of features like screen reader, translation, bookmarks etc'.

Look at your local library website for details.

My favourite so far is 'Car Mechanics'.

While Car Mechanics is a different kettle of fish, I pretty much gave up on motoring magazines a couple of years ago. Just got sick fed up of reading pages upon pages about cars I have absolutely no interest in, and never getting any more than a passing few lines on cars I was interested in. That and the overwhelming obsession with power (more is always better than less and you can never have too much), speed and roadholding.

I may go back to classic car magazines because there always seemed to be a more even spread of coverage going from small cheap classics right up to seven figure exotics.

Thanks for the reminder JH. Pressreader is great for any magazine type.

I'm with you bbd. I just skim through the magazines such as Autocar, AE and Car.

You look at the price of the exotica being reviewed and wonder, "who is buying these!?"

There doesn't appear to be a lack of buyers when you see the showrooms with such cars though.

When I passed my test in 1980 and bought my first car a1969 mini, I developed a keen interest in car maintenance, magazines like car mechanics, popular motoring ect, we’re invaluable in my quest for learning, indeed, they enabled me to carry out my own repairs and servicing, nowadays of course, repairs consist of checking the fluid levels and tyre pressures.

Yep. I used to get Car free with my bank account(!) and it was basically just a bunch of cars that only the very wealthy (or daft) would buy. There seemed to be a new Porsche 911 every single month.

Used to love Ted Connolys column in Car Mechanics, Ted sadly passed away a few years ago now but he did have a lovely style of writing.

Was it something like “ economy with Connolly”.?

Most of my info nowadays comes from online content, I can’t remember the last time I bought a magazine.
But it is good to dip into old editions for the occasional quality of writing. Clarkson, when he puts his mind to it, and stops being his TV persona, is a superb writer - although he has shown recently that he needs a strong subeditor to sometimes moderate content…
My favourite of all time is the late Russell Bulgin, who contributed to motoring and motorsport publications. Effortless writing style and so easy to read great content.

I sometimes read a bit of news on some of the online mags, but a cross section of the revues on some cars could have all been written by the same person with a few words changed around.

As for video revues, yuck.

'Revues' - do they go on stage as well ? :-))

I used to like HJ's short video reviews.

The young chaps posting their channel ''Buckle Up'' on youtube make interesting videos too, one of the lads actually bought a Jogger for his own use a year ago which brought this channel to my attention.

Spot the deliberate choice of words, (you won) some of them should be, (as Comedy)
