Although there have been other threads on this subject, the front runners change their prices for this sort of cover fairly regularly so thought I would air the question again.
I need to obtain cover (more for peace of mind) for 10 days motoring in France in February (the annual ski dash to the Alps). My usual breakdon cover is with Britannia, but the European cover through them is a right hotchpotch, being underwritten by an insurance company and not really filling me with confidence.
Any suggestions? My normal cover isn't up for renewal until May so I really need a stand-alone policy for now.

Probably not much consolation for you at present, but I have an annual multi-trip accident insurance with the Portman Building Society's insurance division, and it includes free european car breakdown insurance. Worth considering when you renew, if you expect to make use of it. (I haven't taken my car to Europe but it's a useful freebie, and if I have any money and holiday left at the end of the year hope to take a day-trip to France...)

Thank you for that suggestion, Mr Tower.
Er, no relatives working for MG Rover, are there?

I dont know how old your Alfa is NoDosh, but mine comes with 3 year AA cover which includes European Breakdown.
If not, I got my last one a few years back from Drive-alive's website, although I dont know if you have to have your holiday through them aswell? Worth a try!

It's just passed it's 3rd birthday but it's an import so the free cover didn't apply.
I will have a look at Drive Alive as well.
Ta!

No relatives working for Rover (thank goodness??) Used to work for an automotive supplier - was horrified at the calibre of some senior Rover staff in the late 1990's, I could have done better than them! No wonder BMW had trouble, leaving Rover to get on with it themselves. If BMW had gone through the Rover management and replaced some of them with their own BMW bods, things might have been so different :-((
