Struggling to understand what I'm seeing on the video.

The latch that engages when you close the boot is usually, even if operated electrically rather than a direct mechanical link, reasonably easy to 'frig' with a screwdriver or whatever so that it releases.

Is the latch fastened or is something else preventing the tailhatch from lifting even when it's free?

Over various cars down the last 35+ years we've had boots stick shut occasionally but the cause is pretty well invariably something like a bag or strap caught somewhere. Usually in the mechanism but occasionally elsewhere.

nothings keeping it closed it feels glued shut its not locked i have tried to kick it from the inside while pressing the button, it has gaps where u can see to outside nothing works maybe the hinges have sealed up i duno i got the car yesterday so have no idea what's caused it. thanks for your reply.

This is a 2 person job . One to release the mechanical latch , while the other grabs the edge of the tailgate to lift it up.,

so i just kicked it from inside with intention of just breaking it and it poped open with the seales attached looks like paint has glued it shut as it was used as a painters car.

yes works like it should only problem is the trim was snapped off by someone else so thats in half and going to need gluing back on

Or maybe solvent vapour has attacked the rubber and made it sticky.

I'd give the rubber a wash with soup and water, maybe a scotch brite rub, and then apply some kind of silicone grease or spray to stop it recurring

I'd give the rubber a wash with soup and water, ..

I'm not 100% sure this is an Ed typo. but it sounds like an interesting idea .... what flavour ?
