Off up to the Western Isles in three weeks with Daughter/Husband and 18mo grandson.

We're both taking and travelling to the ferry in our own cars. Their Octavia Estate and one of ours either Berlingo, as above, or my Fabia Estate. A second car seat, Joie i-spin 360, will be carried so that we can do things together or leave one car at either end of a walk etc. Berlingo is probably better match given its size etc but.....

The i-spin seat is an isofix mounting job but has a support leg that rests on the rear floor of the car. The Berlingo has stowage cubbies under the rear floor in front of the outer seats, the ones with the Isofix catches behind the cushions. I'm finding conflicting advice as to suitability of that set up with the support leg. Obviously the plastic covers for the cubbies are not sufficiently robust to provide proper support.

The Joie instructions have a caution about this and say 'consult Citroen'. Not tried that yet but previous experience is that Cit UK will tell me to consult a dealer.

I'll make those calls on Monday but does anyone else have any experience/advice?

Is it possible to remove the lid and/or entire cubby? Can the leg be aimed so it is in front of or behind the cubby?

The lids are plastic and easily removable. However, the floor of the cubby is soft and flexible. It does not rest on the floorpan but rather seems to be suspended above it. Further exploration discloses that the floor around the cubbies is carpet over a large and very thick layer of heavy duty foam.

HAve not got the seat with me to try. but i suspect there's not enough room around the cubby for the leg.

Please see all the disclaimers regarding technical advice given in the forum;

I would be tempted to cut a sheet of decent thickness ply that could lie across span the cubby or the entire floor.

When I think about how many of us kids used to cram into a car before the days of seatbelts and kiddie seats, I wonder how many of us managed to survive.

I lost friends and friends lost limbs before helmets became compulsory.

Could you be over thinking the problem? Early kiddie seats never had that leg.

It's not the number that survived that's the concern, it's the number that didn't.

Anyway, this particular car seat is a fully rotating job and is enormous. They come in two parts; the seat itself and the base (with a leg). The seat can be detached from the base and then connected into a pushchair chassis (they normally also accept a moses basket so you can use the same chassis for a pram). The base itself remains in the car and oversails the edge of the back seat. Whilst the isofix anchors it, the leg is need to stop the seat from tipping down into the cushion beneath in the event of an accident.
