Hi; looking for recommendations for a steering wheel lock (mainly as a deterrent) and the possibility of fitting a Ghost Immobiliser. Went to Halfords yesterday and nothing they had in fitted the steering wheel properly, they were either too large / sloppy or didn't actually fit - their only suggestion was to blindly order from website & hope it fits. also; has anyone fitted an additional immobiliser to the factory fitted standard version, if so, what did you fit & would you recommend it. Many thanks, Leon.

Physical anti-theft devices are useless. If you have keyless entry, the one thing you can do to protect your car is to disable it. Otherwise, just make sure it's insured.

Disklok is the best steering wheel lock , but it’s heavy and cumbersome. Ghost immobiliser is effective, but looking at around £500 fitted . Are these measures necessary on a car of this type?

In fairness to Kia's (we had one) I do not consider them to be a car that is likely to get stolen.

Relax and enjoy life.

And make sure you are insured.

Thanks everyone (Adampr, elekie&a/c doctor, skidpan) all your comments are relevant and useful. If it was a high cost Range Rover or BMW etc it would be a no brainer and an immobiliser would have already been fitted ASAP. I was offered top-up insurance to new car value but it was £350+ from memory for 3 yrs only & then it would need to be renewed - an immobiliser would be a single cost for life so would be better value & I wouldn't lose the car unless it was taken on some sort of low-loader/trailer. I tried a Disklok but there is a flat surface on the bottom of the steering wheel causing it to flop around & it could probably be easily prised off at this point with very little effort. According to Google; disabling the keyless entry seems to be possible but it might not be very practical - there might be something with the key fob buttons but I may need to ask Kia about this. It's my first new baby so am probably more paranoid than I should be ...

Disabling the keyless entry might be in the options via the infotainment. Otherwise, get something called a faraday pouch to keep the keys in.

I know how it is - I had a brand new Mini in 2001 and kept looking out the window at it. The Proceeds are very nice. I had one on order but cancelled because Kia were taking so long to import it. Having said that, it's already got a factory immobiliser. That will stop anyone other than a professional thief stealing to order, and Kias aren't high in their list.

Thanks Adampr, curtain peeping has become the norm these last few days. I will have a look at the Infotainment and take a closer read of the car manual. I've just been given a contact number via Kia chat for their Customer Service Team 0332 202 2990 and may contact them tomorrow when they are open again. At the moment, I have the keys wrapped in tinfoil & this is very effective at blocking signal blocking till I settle on a more permanent solution.

Any metal canister should work. Tobacco tin if you know any smokers, or sweetie time

On the Skywing there is a bracing strut under the dash that I used to chain my toolbox to, since the car no longer locks. If I wanted to immobilize it (when it isn’t broken), which realistically would be extremely pointless, I could chain this to the steering wheel.Maybe you have something similar.

Or I could remove the distributor rotor arm. That’d probably baffle them, unless they are rather old

Thanks edithgow; one of my friends said he uses a chain around the steering wheel of his GTO & ties it to the door handle, I haven't looked under the dash yet but will do so in a short while.

Take out the rotor arm , that’ll confuse them !

Wow ... taking out the rotor arm, that brings back memories of when you could actually work on the cars before they became all sophisicated. That would certainly do it but not sure how practical that would be for me, I'd have to be under the bonnet rain / hail / or shine everytime I parked the car up. It may be above & beyond the call of duty - my wife might not be too impressed with that idea but thank you for your suggestion.

Maybe take legal advice. You might be considered as being “equipped to lock on’ though maybe you would in practice be ok if you keep away from Coronation ceremonies.

You could in any case be suspected of being equipped to lock on, so not much to lose.

Nothing to lose but your chains, in effect

Locking on - I never would have thought of that but I guess it could certainly happen if I was in the wrong location at the wrong time.
