Nissan Micra 160SR - Cold Air Induction Kit for Nissan Micra 160SR? - JJ2K

I've looked online for a cold air induction kit for my Nissan Micra 160SR, but all the ones I've found were on Amazon and they say the product can't be used with airflow/ pressure sensors.

I'm not amazing at cars but I would like to try and fix a cone-shaped air filter to the intake tube so that it has a 'sportier' sound. I understand it won't make a huge difference in BHP improvements but I don't mind in that respect.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Without working sensors its highly likely the engine will not run correctly. Its possible that it may put up the engine light on the dash, an MOT failure.

So what is more important, proper performance, economy and a road legal car or the "sporty" sound?

Your call.

I don't want to take the sensors off as I know they're important for the engine, I just wanted to know if there are any kits that I can use that incorporate the sensors but also add the cold air intake as well.

Supposedly, HKS do one

www.hks-power.co.jp/en/product/intake/index.html

You have a HR16DE engine and they have one for the HR15DE which apparently fits. It is listed for the Juke, probably not for the Micra but bear in mind that it's called a March in Japan.

It may be a lot easier to just put a drop-in K&N filter in there or, frankly, just go brrrm brrrm as you drive along. You should consider whether making a change and not declaring it as a modification could affect your insurance.

That's a pretty restrained advert. Doesn't seem to make any claims at all, and right there on the front page it says it might bust your engine.

I seriously doubt that, mostly because I seriously doubt it does anything.

I had a bust exhaust downpipe for a while which made my sub-litre naturally aspirated 3-cyl sound like a muscle car.

Dunno if that's what you mean by sporty, but if it is, perhaps you could try that.

At least it wont compromise the most important filter on the car.

Wasn't there someone on here who had an insurance problem as they'd bought a car that had a K&N filter fitted they didn't know about. IIRC the insurers claimed it was an undeclared modification.

Yes, which is why I mentioned insurance. However I am still dubious about a claim getting refused because of the manufacturer of the air filter. Perhaps if it was one of those cone filters, but surely not a simple drop-in.

Insurance idiocy aside, I would say a conical K&N filter is contra-indicated because they don’t filter very well when independently tested.

Their main pitch, as I understand it, is that they are less restrictive (than a standard OEM filter. (Because they don’t filter very well) This doesn’t really constitute a reason to fit one since the standard filters restriction has negligible impact on performance. (Though it’s a better reason than a “sporty sound” IMO)

If a “sporty sound” is important to you, and filter performance isn’t, maybe just take the filter off and see if you like how that sounds. I

I suppose the risk of my buying a used car off you in the future is one I can live with.

Indeed, a Merc coupe if I remember right, it was fairly recent. The poster bought it without being aware there was a K&N drop-in filter in the airbox, and after being involved in a crash his insurers were washing their hands because of it.

Hi guys new to the honest John forum but used it for advice over many year

I own a micra cc 1.6 sport which has the 160sr engine fitted and despite it being quite fast if you keep it above 4000rpm it does suffer a little on acceleration.

Now I started playing around with it and first replaced the exhaust from the GT backbox that was already fitted to a stainless steel backbox this was mainly for sound rather than performance and it did jack all haha. Then I looked into the air intake and it's crap way to small feed pipes going from small to smaller then back to small this restricted the airflow so I ripped it all out right back to the engine air intake and fitted a modified MAF housing to increase the size of the intake then fitted a K&N forced air induction kit with a 3 inch direct air feed pipe from the grill to the K&N filter which I connected straight to the MAF housing and to my amazement the MPG shot up by 8mpg higher when driving steady which is not very often and I can honestly say the car is alot quicker but once it hits 120mph that's it its flat out so its gotta be restricted cause it hit 120mph regardless of road up hill on a straight its the same 120 and that's as fast as it goes yet there's loads of travel left on the accelerator and rpm
