Replacing the alternator!

Hi, has anyone ever changed an alternator on one of these without taking the engine out???

Cannot find a guide or video anywhere - except an Indonesian video for a LHD ??

That thing is BURIED.

I found it invaluable for my Ducato based camper

Just read a terrifying comment elsewhere that the subframe has to be dropped to change an alternator!!

Pleased (amazed!) to report that today I got that alternator OFF.

No need to disconnect the exhaust, just the tin heatshjeld over the steering pipes and the power steering pump bolts to move it aside.

The hidden 3rd alternator bolt is a swine - but if you remove the two belt idler pulleys a socket and wrench can be got in the gap to release it. (I used a 1/2" to 3/8 adapter to add length to the socket.

The alternator then wriggles out backwards surprisingly easy.

ps. I have been warned that the Euro 6 models need the massive suspension crossmember dropping though. Nightmare!!
