Hello all does anybody know if the Lucas cav injection pump has a cold start device and if so where is it the haynes manual is pitifully useless unless you have a bosch device
I have the usual trouble here, first start after an overnight ends in the engine stopping after about 5 seconds you can do this about 5 or 6 times until it will run cleanly unless you give it a bit of gas and keep it there until its running in which case it fine .
I have replaced the glow plugs and the filter housing incase we had an air leak and the battery is new i am now convinced it is a failed cold start on the pump incedently the dam thing starts first time every time after this palarva and pulls like a good un

Will it keep running if the throttle is used to up the idle speed Keith?

thanks for replying ! and yes that is the way to get it to start and keep running just take up slack in the throttle and then press a little to give a fast idle (too fast to leave as an idling speed but ennuff to allow it to start)and then hold for about 5 seconds release and it slows back to idle speed and runs fine

Well it does sound like the fast-idle speed control isn't jacking the idle speed up at all/enough.
I'm not conversant with this system but if you could post a close up pic of the pump I might be able to point you in the right direction....
