Rover 75 Cdt - OldOiler
Fuel consumption as dropped over the last week down to around 32/34 mpg. - no ECU codes have come up
Any idea\'s?? perhaps one of the sensors

Dropped from what previous figures?
My Vectra (petrol engine) has dropped from 28mpg to around 25, due to the temperature drop in the past couple of weeks.

Mine (CDT 131ps) has also dropped a bit over the past ten days or so but I have never averaged less than 40 mpg. This is on a mix of mainly urban and extra-urban driving. I don't usually drive very hard so this might be why I am getting more than Old Oiler's 32/34.
Rover 75 Cdt - OldOiler
Normally around 40/43, I realise that it as been cold over the last week or so but it does seem a bit low

Do you have the fuel burning auxiliary heater* fitted under the bonnet, near to the N/S top suspension mounting?

If so, that explains it.

*To enable faster engine warmup and cabin heat

Will have a look, have a wierd system under the os rear suspension system - looks like a cooler unit - for diesel???

Rover 75 Cdt - DL
Yep, there's a diesel fuel cooler there to cool the diesel fuel (It gets hot when compressed by the main pump and is returned from the common rail, unused)

Post a pic of your engine bay, I'll point the heater out to you.

I have a 131 CDt as well, I usually clock 39 on the button but I'm gunning up and down motorways and then the rest is urban.

32/34mpg, I can't think how it could sink that low. Air con always on and blasting super cold air plus fogs, rear screen heater, full beam and stereo on flat out?
Rover 75 Cdt - jIIspb
i have the cdt and i'm only getting 31mpg around town. this is with air con off. i'm having it chipped and serviced in 2 weeks , hoping it will inprove after that, if not i will have to look at it further.
Rover 75 Cdt - OldOiler
Glad Im not the only one !! mine is chipped, but having had other cars chipped withh little change to normal driving Im shocked at the poor consumption from this chip set. So I will be interested in what value you get when modified.

Having it chipped?? Where?

i'm having it done by the local rover dealer, its an approved rover up grade.
Rover 75 Cdt - Dizzy {P}
jIIspb,

Like 3500S, I bought my CDT already chipped so can't compare 'before and after'. I would be interested to know what actual differences you find when you get yours chipped, not just in performance terms but also things such as, for example, increased or reduced engine noise.
Rover 75 Cdt - DL
and smoke..

That's the usual downside to a chipped oil-burner

i'm sure that rover would not do xpower upgrades to there engines if it was going to cause trouble.this upgrade does not invalidate any waranties, that is why i have gone for the xpower upgrade and not the superchips version, which takes the bhp up to 142
Rover 75 Cdt - OldOiler
Note
The BMW lump is good for around 180 Bhp (150 guise + chipping) so what we are putting in is well within its design limits - assuming you are NOT going to do traffic light GP's

Yeh, thats what I meant, when it comes to 'aftermarket' (No names mentioned!) Diesel chips.......

I saw an article last month in a car mag (one of the not so well known ones) whilst visiting WHSmith. I cannot remember the car mag title but it did have a story about one of their long-term-test Rover 75's (Diesel I think)suffering a total engine seizure after a coolant leak.

Not too surpringly Rover replace the engine immediately but they would not comment on what caused the coolant loss.

So beware. If I were you I would put my complaint in writing to Rover UK; or the next thing that will happen is that you will have an engine failure due to coolant loss and Rover will blame you for not having topped up the coolant properly!!! Or worse still the dealer will blag it that the coolant loss you complained of had no bearing on the engine seizure!!
