2003 Volkswagen Golf Mk4 1.9 TDI vs 1.9 SDI - What parts should I remove and keep? - Brian Worthington

Sadly I've trashed the bodywork on an excellent 2003 Golf Mk4 1.9 TDI so will have to scrap it, even though mechanicaly it's still great. Before I do though I'd like to salvage a sensible set of parts from it that are compatible with my new car, a 2003 Golf Mk4 1.9 SDI (with only 81,000 miles on the clock!). Any suggestions for a list of compatible parts that are fairly easy to remove and worth keeping on the shelf? I'm retired with time on my hands - I don't know much but I like 'how to do' googling and having a go!

How much space do you have ? Other than the engine , virtually everything else is the same .

That's great news thanks. I'll work my way don a prioritised list until I've had enough (I'm touching 70 now rather than my car, hence the SDI instead of the TDI!). Any suggestions for priority parts, based on things such as likelihood I'll need the part at some point, cost of buying the part and, ease of removing the part (e.g. starter motors aren't cheap, don't last forever and I beileve just need some bolts undoing)?

I’m unsure of your ability or what tools you have , but starter and alternator are not easy access. I would concentrate on items that can be removed in a short time . Wiper arms and blades , possibly wiper motor and linkage . Rear light clusters . Perhaps a few interior fittings. Roof and boot light. Headlights need the bumper off for access. Under the bonnet, battery and coolant bottle.

That's really useful, thanks!
