Could someone explain the basics of italian tuning.

All help greatly appreciated

Don\'t go above second gear!

Martin,

To be serious (!) all you need to do is give the car it\'s head. No need to risk your license, just make the engine work a bit harder than usual. Where safe to do so accelerate at max throttle to 500rpm short of maximum revs through gears a few times, and cruise at 70mph in 4th for a while instead of 5th.

The very fact that you are undertaking this sort of trip is a tonic for the car if it is usually used on town work.

Best results obtained by using a quality injector cleaner at the same time (Forté is my recommendation, but you can only buy it from a trade stockist).

Hello

Thank you for the message,

I was given this bottle of red x, a red liquid that says it should be used for cleaning the fuel system.

Will that work if i put the bottle in the tank the car is a 1993 1.8 mondeo with a 60 litre tank.

Best Regards

Forte is on the shelf at my local ATS depot for getting difficult diesels through the emissions test - not what I would call a trade stockist.

I noticed Forté fuel aditives are also on sale to Joe Public at my local Vauxhall main dealer as well.

Hello

What is forte and how can my car benefit.

Is red x the same as forte.

Depending where you are in your servicing schedule, it would be good to complete the job with an oil and filter change and perhaps new spark plugs, air filter, etc.

Not quite, although theoretically both *should* do a similar job if you believe what's written on the label.

Personally, IMHO, I'd use the Forté stuff.

ATS are a national chain, and in the motor trade, so why on earth should they not be a "trade stockist".Likewise the DD's Vauxhall dealer. They are both in the trade, and they both stock Forté products, and they both sell them to the public, which is the definition of trading. The point is that Forté prefer to see their products marketed by outlets who can advise on the correct use and benefits, rather than "Joe Public" simply picking it off a shelf at the supermarket.

Be careful about "a bottle of RED-X" in the tank - as far as I know the RED-X product is sold in bottles intended to be measured according to the volume of fuel in the tank, and a full bottle could be a massive overdose.

I'm not pretending to know anything, but I have, on several occasions, poured Half a bottle of NEAT Redex straight into the Carb of a running car, over the space of about 30 seconds... so I don't think there is much chance of overdose by putting a bottle in the fuel tank...
It appeared to be Rightly done as the cars concerned smoked a lot, then smoked less & started/ran better afterwards.
but I could be wrong.

Hi Al,

Yes, but NOT recommended on a car with an Oxygen Sensor and a Catalytic Converter !

Thanks for the reply,
I think I would be alot more cautious on a car with Oxy sensor + CAT than to just tip Redex straight into the throttle body!
You made a good point...
Italian Tuning - Halmer
Be careful with the Redex.

You could actually remove deposits that are improving combustion because they disguise metal ware.

I remember using it freely on an old high mileage Escort once. Seemed to improve it at first but after a few hundred miles it actually lost power.

Adam - I think you know what people mean when they mention a 'trade stockist' - one that only sells to practitioners of that trade, e.g. plumbers. And possibly at 'trade prices' with no mark-up.

Hi

does my 1995 Mondeo 1.8lx have a catalitic converter (how is it spelled).

does it have this oxygen sensor also.

as stated before the mileage is 92393 miles,

Should i attempt to use a cleaning aditive as like someone said about there escort it lost power after a few miles.

Catalyst? Yes

Oxygen Sensor? Yes

Redex? Does the car run/start/drive OK?

If so, I'd leave well alone.
Italian Tuning - Adam Going (Tune-Up)
Martin,

Whatever product you are considering, just make sure it states on the packaging that it is suitable for use with Catalytic Converters. Most are, providing you following the instructionas as to amount used (per litre or per tank).

Red.X is a great product for lubrication (valves, piston rings, injectors etc.) but in my humble opinion is not the best CLEANER in the world. I use Forté Injector Cleaner for (obviously !) cleaning injectors, and their Gas Treatment for problems with carbon-fouled valves, Oxygen Sensors, and Cats. As far as "off the shelf in the high street" products are concerned, you will not go far wrong with Wynns or STP products. In all cases, just following the measurement instructions.

Remember that it is easier to KEEP things clean than to clean them once they are dirty and causing a discernable problem. Thus a regular application of such products is my prefference.
