Hyundai Tucson 1.7DCT Diesel - DCT clutch replacement - johnw250

I have a 2017 Tucson 1.7 DCT diesel and I use it to occasionally pull a caravan.
On a couple of occasions recently the revs have climbed rapidly, then sunk again during a gear change at low speed on sharp steep slopes. I am worried the DCT clutch is nearing its end of life.
I’ve done a bit of googling and it sounds like I’m in for a major bill. And it’s a main dealer job.
Does anyone know how much a new clutch will cost?

The only cost reference for a Hyundai dct clutch replacement cost is for a i30 1.6 diesel owned in Australia. His bill was 5300 Aus dollars which is around £3000 sterling. Ouch!

Give it's barely out of warranty, if at all, I would suggest taking it to a Hyundai dealer and telling them about the issues you're having. It does sound like issues reported with Hyundai DCTs before they fail. That being the case, Hyundai may be willing to diagnose and repair under warranty.

Oil rag – thanks for finding that info – it’s what I was expecting – gulp!

Adampr – the car was registered in January 2017, so it’s almost 6 years old.

More info – I towed the 1400kg caravan 400 miles last week. There were no problems on the motorway. No problems pulling away on flattish starts.

The next service is due in April. I’ll ask them to check the clutch but in the meantime I’ll keep running the car and hope for the best.
