Couple of video nuggets for the petrolhead! - badbusdriver

Both these are from YouTube.

First is of the legendary Ruf CTR "Yellowbird"(*) at the 'ring in 1987. What strikes me looking at the interior footage is just how hard the driver is working at the wheel, like he is only just managing to keep a degree of control over the beast!. Much respect though, it does look a huge handful!

*A much modified Porsche 911 which, with Ruf being considered a manufacturer (like Alpina is to BMW), was for a time, the fastest production car in the world (faster than Porsche's own 959).

Second is more a musical treat courtesy of the glorious 2.0 V6 under the engine cover of the impossibly delicate and pretty (Ferrari) Dino 206 (whose engine is fired up about 5:30)

A chap called Stefan Rosser driving the Ruf, apparently a test driver of theirs. Not the fastest way round the ‘ring but pretty spectacular.

A YouTube fave of mine is Climbdance, in car with Ari Vatanen, former world rally champion and all round good bloke in a Peugeot 405T16 up Pikes Peak when it mostly still gravel and no guard rails and mahoosive drops off the edge of the road.

Or, for a superb piece of undramatic but very quick driving, the late Tony Pond lapping the TT circuit (37+ miles) at an average of over 100mph in a standard Rover Vitesse. The whole lap isn’t available online - I’ve still got it on VHS that I must get transferred to digital format.

Yeah, I'm very familiar with Climbdance, especially that bits near the top where he is driving with one hand on the wheel while holding up the other to shield his eyes from the sun, madness!

He's certainly sawing away at the wheel of that Ruf. It's twitching like mad going into the corners, let alone coming out of them ....

Like a lot of people my age I suspect, I fell in love with the 206 Dino after watching Tony Curtis tooling around in a red one in 'The Persuaders'. Stunningly pretty car although nowadays if I was offered one of either the Dino or Roger Moore's Aston Martin DBS I suspect I would struggle to make my mind up which to have.

Still, not a dilemma I'm likely to encounter is it?
