What age?

If it cranks alright it's unlikely to be the starter and sounds more like fuelling. That could be the immobiliser or there could be a blockage etc. Is fuel making its way along the lines? Has it actually got any in it??

I suppose the other obvious culprit is the plugs. Are you getting a spark?

If it's the immobilizer you should get something displayed on the dashboard. Usually a key symbol or so I'm given to understand.

Did not use car for about a month. Battery went flat so took it out got it recharged. Reinstalled it and took out the spark plugs and cleaned them throughly.

Look at what was changed last - why did you remove spark plugs? Coil packs or leads replaced in the correct order? (no info re age of car etc)

Start with first principals - do you have a spark, fuel(smell) etc.

If this is a modern car I understand its quite common to have to exorcise demons after doing anything to it.

There'll be special incantations known only to the priesthood at the dealership.
