Toyota Yaris 2006 - Battery is only 3 volts - mikem004

Car has been left for 3 days. Was unexpectedly totally flat today, no power at all. I have not experienced any recent problems.

Battery is 5 years old, reads only 3V on a multimeter. Is this battery worth trickle charging or jump starting?

May be worth a trickle charge , but at 5 years old it’s probably past its prime. Anything left switched on ?

Nothing left switched on as far as I can see.

Took the battery out of the car and can verify that the voltage is actually 7.2 V., not 3 V. Must have misread it originally.

Ideally, recharge it with a good smart charger which has a reconditioning cycle - it may take 48 hours to complete the full cycle - but if you don't have one, the money would be better spent on a new battery.

There was probably a load on it when it was connected, that could have been what flattened it.

I got a cheapo Chinese pulse charger quite similar to this one except it doesn't do 24V. Was 400NT (about a tenner).

Seems to work.

In the UK Lidl/Aldi sometimes have cheap chargers, which have had fairly good reviews from the same guy.
