Skoda Octavia - USB powered dash cams - beufighter

Indeed a somewhat strange answer. The question indicated a usb socket was available and the answer gave a link to a 12V cigarette lighter socket adapter. All dashcams seem to be usb powered.

I don't know where you got the idea that all dashcams are USB powered.

I've fitted a couple recently, both hard wired and they required 12 volt supplies from a fuse, to supply a stabilised power/filter module that supplies the dashcam.

Dash cams need a 5 volt stabilised power supply to operate correctly. Using a plug in adapter to a power socket or a hard wire kit keeps the voltage stable .

I don't know where you got the idea that all dashcams are USB powered.

Because they all have a USB cable with them?

Maybe "USB powered" isn't the right term but they use USB connections for their power.

Any adapter (either cigarette lighter or car 12V to USB like the link below) will have electronics in them to convert the voltage to USB's standard 5V.

Short USB C (car mirror socket) to Mini USB (eg Nextbase) lead:-

Reported car had a USB behind the mirror. The USB sockets go off with ignition as well unlike the 12v sockets.
