Hi all.

My wife's 2016 Peugeot 2008 1.6 diesel has an annoyance when changing up through the gears. The car jolts or jerks when bringing the clutch up between gear changes. Only an exaggerated slowly bringing up the clutch pedal and slipping the clutch prevents it. It's worse in the lower gears but even changing third to fourth you can still feel it.

I suspect the clutch, the car has done about 55k mile. However I checked the car over and found the passenger side outer driveshaft boot had come off, the clip was gone. I repacked the boot with the correct grease, cleaned all the spilt grease up and fitted a new clip. It didn't stay on long and at it's mot last month the garage replaced the clip again but that has also slipped off the boot and it's leaking grease again. I've just checked it.

Could the driveshaft being short of grease cause it to have worn and is causing the transmission jolt? Or is it more likely the clutch? Or maybe something else. Any advice welcome.

The symptoms do sound to me like a clutch problem, but CV boot clips certainly should not do what yours has. One failed on my 2008 Pug 207SW at 12 years old but was successfully replaced. Your driveshaft definitely needs investigation IMHO.

The Peugeot original clip had snapped and had disappeared. The clip I fitted was an after market universal thing and didn't look as substantial as an original. I'd guess the small mot garage that fitted another clip would use the same as I used. The boot is perfect I think I need a genuine Peugeot clip to get one that is decent.

Looking at the boot with the steering on full lock the boot is getting pulled off the joint housing. The clips aren't man enough to hold it on.

That sounds as if the clip at the other end of the CV boot is stretching it too much to absorb the movement ?
