How will batteries cope with this!

ICE CARS - Terry W

But the batteries may have been fine:

“The frozen cars were literally squeezed by ice.

“There are cracked windows…and water in the handles and wipers elements like handles and wipers are destroyed.”

Furthermore, sea water inside the car body “guarantees that the car will rust more rapidly”.

He said: “The worst thing is that all the electric equipment can be destroyed. This is the death penalty for modern car."

I suppose extreme conditions like that would provide a challenge to any vehicle, no matter their source of fuel.

The temperature itself isn’t a problem - manufacturers routinely test in northern Sweden & Finland in Winter, alternatively they’ll use cold chambers to get them down to -40. Millbrook proving ground in Bedfordshire have such a chamber where cars can be driven out of the chamber straight onto a test track.
Any sea water getting in to crook & nannies and subsequently expanding as it freezes will cause the same issues to either an ICE or BEV.

Any connections with salt water will need cleaning but will be FUBAR if left days.

As pointed out this is mostly bodywork and interior damage caused by freak weather conditions.

If any were BEVs then the batteries are probably salvageable just as the engines might be in the ICE cars affected.
