Qashqai - Qashqai 1st Gen---faults and reliability? - Jamie3141

Hi all

Family member is thinking of getting a Qashqai, and I've heard pretty bad things about them so far. For example, batteries dying prematurely, apparently having the highest breakdown rate of all vehicles in the UK (thisismoney article), suspension problems, premature timing belt failure, windscreen leak---leading to water ingress, front suspension lower ball joints not seating correctly, power steering and rack/pinion problems, etc.

Can any users verify this? What have you experienced and do you regret your decision to buy?

Thanks

J

It's basically a Renault, which may be a good or bad thing. Probably depends on the engine. The 1.5 diesel is a tough unit as long as the cambelt has been done on time. I had this engine in a Megane and it gave good service.

They don’t have a great reputation at all. I remember them being everywhere when current yet today you hardly see a first gen car around here despite the number sold. I wouldn’t have one.

It was junk when new. Don't even think about it.
