Over 10 years since I was in that position and things may have changed but I had no problems adding my daughter to my 2000/X HDi/110 Xantia c2010. Roughly doubled my premium with a further hike when the test was passed and could go solo.

My guess would be that it's a Hastings issue. I had an issue later with Admiral (same group as Hastings) who insisted on listing my son, then just passed his test, as the main driver even though he patently was not.

Shop around more, including companies that don't advertise on comparison sites.

There are also companies like Marmalade that offer add on cover for these sort of applications.

I think it’s because it is a 7 seater. I had this issue with with my Ford Galaxy and my son when learning and the insurer wouldn’t insure due to 7 seater. Same with my daughter, they won’t insure her on it until she is 21 even though she has 3 years NCD.
