Good afternoon,

I have posted before so apologies for duplication.

Before I change the heater matrix on my golf, I was thinking of doing a proper system cooling flush and clean out. Should I use a system flush - what brand would you recommend? Distilled water to be used for the flush or will tap water do? - after the flush should a system sealer be used - yes/no? A garage I have spoken to say they would use a "bio-flush" - any brand to be used? The cooling system header tank should be cleaned out as well?

Thank you for any replies

A garage has quoted me £250 for this job - complete system cooling flush and refill @ £90 per hour.

Waste of money . Nothing is going to unblock the heater matrix if the original system was fitted with a silikat bag in the expansion tank . Yes , flush the system, replace the matrix , and then fill will fresh coolant .

But make sure the silikat bag is removed or replace the header tank for one without the horrible bursting bag. It's such a common fail the modified tank is frequently in stock at dealers! The offending tanks have "mit silikat" stamped on them.
