ORB when you say not much benefit , in terms of what . reliability or woeful fuel economy.

It'll be a bit more powerful, but you will barely notice, It will be thirstier, but equally reliable.
If we are talking about the Soul, it doesn't come with the 1.4 petrol, only the 1.6.
On the Venga, the 1.6 has 40% more BHP than the 1.4, and a six gears rather than five. Granted the difference in torque isn't that big, but I still suspect you would notice quite a bit of difference, especially on a motorway cruise with the extra gear. I also suspect that at main road speeds in top gear, the 1.6 would be at least as efficient, but possibly more so, than the 1.4.
Finding one might be tricky though. Out of the 97 petrol Venga's on Autotrader nationwide (manual box, no insurance write offs, up to £8k), only 15 are 1.6's!.
And the ix20?, you only got the 1.6 petrol as an auto, so if you want a petrol engine and manual gearbox, its the 1.4 or nothing.
