Vauxhall Corsa - Mot failure - Suzannah Jarman

Hi I'm looking for some advice. My sons car had some work done last year to get it through its mot. Since then the car has only been driven about 10 times as he is still a learner. It was mot'd yesterday and theres around 700 worth of repairs needing done. A similar thing happened with my daughter's car, it had passed last year and hardly been driven then had loads needing done to it. Can someone explain how this can happen, when a car has hardly been used how there can be so much damage? I feel the garage is trying to RIP me off.

It would help to have some idea of the things it has failed on this year - and also whether any of this year's failures were last year's advisories.

That is quite possible. But a car sitting unused is not like food kept in the freezer; some parts slowly deteriorate, maybe corroding slowly or just seizing up. You need to tell us more.

If you share the reg number we can look at the MOT history online and give a view. In case you are worried about security please bear in mind that your reg is on public display every time the car is in the road.

At a guess meantime I expect that it’s brake issues or corrosion that the garage has found.

One of the mods can delete the registration after a few hours if the OP does have concerns.

Why concern? There's nothing secret about a car's reg plate and MoT history. Indeed, they are a source of interest and amusement for some.

With cars it's very much as case of use it or loose it. Brake disks / drums rust, calipers and sliders seize, ABS valves stick, handbrake mechanisms stick/seize, brake piston seals can be damaged if not used for a long time. Engine valves and flaps can stick - eg PCV, EGR, inllet manifold flaps. Tyres can form flat spots. Petrol deteriorates in the tank. Just a few examples.

It would be interesting to see the list of failures.

Doesn't look as though we will get answers from the OP ?
