Honda Civic - Worth £2800 replacing TCM on '08 Honda Civic? - dragonfly101

Main dealer has diagnosed the transmission control module to be the reason I get these breakdowns with car stuck in neutral and 'check system' warning light. An independent garages I know and trust did have a look at the error codes and said it was something only the main dealer could do.

This replacement is as much as the car is worth, however it is in otherwise good condition and I'm happy with it (though it is over 100k miles now). My fear is having this replaced and the problem isn't fixed, and Honda then just want to replace some other component.

What is the TCM anyway? Is it a mechanical component subject to wear? If it's just an electronic component then how actually does it fail?

TCM is an electronic module.

The only place to go is to track the part down at a scrappy

thanks, I did speak to a recommended independent gearbox specialist garage and they said that only Honda can do this replacement though - even if I can find the part.

Might be worth looking at a Civic forum to see if others have had this problem and how they fixed it.

I've not been on for a while, but join the Civinfo forum, as there was one member on there who used to repair these i-shift boxes.

Sounds like its an iShift - in which case don't spend a penny on it and get what you can from WBAC etc.. iShift will become a money pit.
