Octavia 1.2 petrol Tsi 2011 - Camshaft Sensor - Matt Kerrigan

Hi

Car has 65k miles, regular service, no previous issues. Wouldn't start this evening and wife thinks she saw a TSR message on dash but disappeared. No EML on. I read codes and P0341 camshaft sensor Bank A was present. Any thoughts if this is likely to be a sensor failure needing a swap out or is it indicative of something else. Removed the connector to sensor and no evidence of oil or corrosion etc. Appreciate any advice.

Many thanks

Matt

Possibly a sensor fault ,but very often this code relates to a timing correlation issue . This could be a timing chain problem.

I found on a previous car the crank and cam sensors were the same part number, so I swapped them over. The fault changed from one to the other, so I bought one and replaced it.

Does it stretch?

Are all these engines chain or do some have belts? I didn't get to pull top cover off

Thanks for reply.

Open the bonnet and check the location of the oil filter . If it's upside down ,right in front of you ,on the driver side, then I suspect it will be a chain engine . Yes,they do stretch.

Yes upside down filter. Thanks for info.

Just to update you the chain is broken and valves bent - worst case scenario. Struggling to understand why as serviced yearly with oil and filter etc. No previous warning noises etc.
