Hi Chaps.Looking for a bit of wisdom..

I am looking for a LHD car to take abroad nex year and have come across this ssangyong car which is very cheap but bodily in great nick.

seller says it starts and drives but cuts out after 10-15 mins

it has to be allowed to cool down before it will start again.

I know very little about cars but this car other than the engine problem looks very good and would suit our needs.

does anyone have any clue based on these symptoms of likely cause as if it is an obvious fault I would like to buy it and have it repaired.

but if it could end up being a new engine it would not be worth it and I will leave it

further to last post re non running/cutting out problem the car is 4WD and has done 99000miles

This will be running the old Mercedes 5 cylinder engine , which are capable of huge mileage. The cutting out may be something simple , but I wouldn’t bank on it . All modern Diesel engines are generally expensive to repair. The car would have to be very cheap to take a punt on it .

Common problem on these Mercedes engines is the crankshaft sensor going open circuit when hot. New part is about £75 from Bosch and not too difficult to fit.

thanks for your interest. Yes it is that one on ebay and it is quite cheap but not if you have to put an engine in it eh! I will give it some thought but may just leave it.

The reason I ask is that it says it's french registered. I don't know your circumstances but if you are not prepared to have an online wrestling match with the french system for re-registering a car - I would steer clear of it.
