SEAT Ibiza - Returning a car to dealership - legal rights - Oran
Hello,
Recently I bought a Seat Ibiza (2009) for my first car, in the first 10 days of driving, a fuel injector has gone. I’ve decided to completely return and refund the car which was bought from a family run garage. At first they said there is a 25p charge for every mile I have put on, and then it went up to 45p and now they’re trying 75p. In any case this wouldn’t be a big deal, however I have put 700 miles on (which they know). I was wondering if anyone knew about this and whether it’s a legal requirement and if I can dispute or avoid it in any way.

Many thanks for any help.

Within 30 days you are entitled to a full refund. The reduction for useage is if the car is returned after 30 days but before 6 months. There is probably a page here somewhere explaining this.

Here it is: www.honestjohn.co.uk/problems-with-a-new-or-used-c...#

One or two more hikes in that mileage rate and you will pay more than the value of the car ? :-)

wow, isn't it too much? i bet they are trying to out-wit you by charging too much.

I don't know if my experience will be of any use to you - it depends how you paid for the car. If you bought it on HP/PCP your rights are all against the finance company, not the dealer.

Last year I bought a Used Approved Suzuki and rejected it within 30 days. Suzuki Finance (LloydsBanking Group) not much use (they were fined £63m last year for poor customer service).

Matter was finally resolved by Financial Ombudsman but took months. Outcome was:

p/ex and deposit refunded with 8% interest

they had to collect car

£75 'messing around' compensation

Refund of all monthly payments except one (£127) in recognition of the fact that I'd done about 900 miles in the car., so about 14p/mile.

The day after it was collected it was back up for sale at the same dealer as 'Used Approved'. Faults had obviously not been fixed.
