It usual costs around £10 to repair a puncture and around £30 (?) to get a tyre replaced with a used tyre (balanced and new valve if needed). This is if you go in to the garage.

How much does it usually cost on top of the above / callout charge can I expect to pay if I cannot get to a garage? How much all in?

Thanks

Call local providers and ask or look them up online. We’d only be doing the same to find out. Personally though I would advise spending £20-£30 more and put a decent mid range tyre like a Hankook on instead of a used or cheap budget brand. Your tyres are the most important component on the car, they’re the point of contact with the road and they hold the key to life or death. Don’t scrimp on them.

Thanks. Was having a look and could get new tyres fully fitted .

I assume that'll include valves etc?

Also, I assume if I'd avail of those emergency 24 hr services that they'd have probably charged £20 - £30 more than normal for being outside of normal working hours? Anyone with experience?

A friend of mine struck a kerb hard one evening and wrecked a tyre. Was a Skoda Fabia. The local mobile fitter (supposedly a friend of a friend) quoted a ludicrous price (about £160) to go out and fit a cheap Chinese tyre. In the end I drove out to her car next morning, took the wheel off and took it to a tyre shop where a branded tyre was fitted at a sensible price.

Sticky string tyre plug kits cost about 2 quid for enough to do 10 tyres. Dunno if you can still get them in the famously anal UK but you certainly used to be able to, since they featured in my Triumph Herald handbook.

I used them a lot on my Sierra DOHC here in Taiwan, which seemed to pick up a lot of nails, possibly because I was parking on campus and failing a lot of students in those days.

I didn't skimp, since the plugged tyres were my only contact with the road yadda yadda (when the car wasn't up on axle stands, of course) so some tyres had multiple plugs, no expense spared stylee..

Worked fine.

Sticky strings still available here - recommended for modern cars with no spare wheel - but few drivers would know how to use them.

I think all tyre prices include a new valve and rebalancing, as even if a tyre is repaired it will not be put back in the same position on the wheel. I suppose you might be able to persuade a friendly fitter to manage that, and even to keep the same valve, but the saving would be trivial.
