Peugeot 106 1.5D 95' - Heated Window lead broken from window - Any Idea? - mkultra

Evening all, had good advice here is past and wandered if anyone knows how to fix this one?

The lead got snagged at one point and the copper cable that had a solder join to the heated rear window matrix came away.

I've never yet found a way to reconnect it. Anyway know any way to do that?

I tried a solder paint some years back but it lasted maybe 2 days.

Don't expect many answers tonight with the footy on. But if anyone after celebrating tonight could past tomorrow morning that would be great :-)

Thanks in advance

You will struggle to make this a successful repair. Get a new or s/hand rear window glass .

Don't know the layout of the 106, but the connector on my 306 had detached from the rear screen. I added conductive paint (for repairing the fine lines) to the contact area and wedged a small rubber pad behind the frame to maintain gentle pressure.

Success may depend on whether you can apply pressure in a similar way.

Why Is it not possible to solder it back on? (Lack of soldering iron and solder not an acceptable answer!)

It may be 'possible', John, but I would hesitate to solder against glass, access may be tricky, and some dexterity holding small loose items will be needed.

The connector is bonded to the screen (from factory) . Trying to solder the wire is not a good idea . Localised heat is likely to break the glass . The other issue is how do you solder something that’s not flat ? The tailgate needs to be removed .

Thanks for the suggestions and ideas.

We did try conductive paint a few years back. it lasted maybe three days before it loosened and fell off. Maybe we could have another go at that.

And yes have tried soldering a few times, again it's not an easy one. That said we didn't take the tailgate off as suggested. That would also be worth another go and it's easy drop a 106 tailgate.

I did even get another tailgate at one point even in the right colour and badges but it got smashed before fitting.

Seems a doomed fix this one.

Sounds a bit clunky but I'm now wandering if conductive paint and then over lay that with clear CT1 or Liquid nails or such like to keep it physically and electrically bonded?

It sounds like such a simple fix but not so much.

I don't know about soldering it back on, I'd be very wary of using a soldering iron on glass, if the window did go 'pop' it could prove very expensive. I suspect a very high temperature quick zap is used to fix it in the first place. Perhaps a youtube search would reveal how.

If conductive paint held it for a few days, how about trying that again and then glueing a strap over it using a glass adhesive?

Conductive paint is no good on the main junction point . It’s only marginally ok on the heated lines . You are going to be wasting your time trying to repair it . Get another glass or tailgate.

Yes given we been trying on and off at least 5 years .... no a good few more in fact. Then I'd say you are right

Conductive paint will be no good on its own. You would need conductive glue (if such a thing exists) or something to apply permanent pressure, if the frame offers that - as my 306 does.
