I have a 2010 Vauxhall Astra, 1.7 cdti

I am aware that it has a BCM from a different Astra which has been changed over at some point in its history. The remote central locking from the key doesn’t work. Our local Timpsons say the battery sends a signal to the car and can’t quite understand why it won’t work. Is this likely to be linked to having a different BCM? Will a central locking receiver be needed or will it simply need a new programmed key?

The MD say they can't read the ECU (for a recall) because the BCM was changed, at some point!

If it’s not the original bcm , then it won’t have the correct programme information stored . The unit will need reconfiguring to accept the existing keys .

OK, but MD says this isn't possible, though i have my doubts. Why would anyone change a BCM, if they knew that no diagnostic software could communicate with it?

MD and independent, both suggest that NO CODES will be able to be read, with this BCM, meaning any light on the dash, and i'm screwed!

Looks like you need a new bcm , and configured with the Vauxhall Mdi diagnostic system .
