Just returned from 2 weeks in France and am totally confused as to their diesel pricing. Prices I saw ranged from 0.71 euro to o.89 euro per litre which is an amazing differance and what amazed me even more was seeing filling stations yards (sorry meters) apart selling diesel at widely differing prices.
Do they have a line in "super diesel" which warrants such a price differential?

Supermarkets and branded filling stations. I think this is the explanation. There has always been a sizeable gap between their prices in France.

This is not just true for diesel. On a recent trip I observed prices ranging from E0.97 to E1.12 for a litre of super unleaded. Has to be said though that the lowest price I found was at an elf branded station. Motorway services are usually the highest priced for the same reasons they are over here.

Ditto, Harry. We actually paid between 0?69 and 0?93. The annoying thing is around weekends (and especially Bastille Day) the supermarkets hike up the price something rotten.
Wine's cheap though!

Yes, but have you yet come across a vehicle that will run on it? I do understand many will run on Whisky, but have yet to find a cheap enough source of supply....

French wine is for washing your engine. The Oz product is for drinking ...

Still don't understand how adjacent filling stations could have such widely differing prices - Don't the French compare prices?
