Help!! Escort 1.8 Zetec Revving ! - guzzles
Hi everyone,

looking for suggestions of which part to replace on my engine.

Car works fine when cold start. After about 1 mile it bucks about a few times suggesting fuel starvation. But once it warms up you then experience high revving, as though choke it fully out. Strangely the high revving stops as soon as you are stationary.

If you know what sensor/valve I need to replace could you do a huge favour by telling me where to look for it on the engine !!

Thanks

The Idle Speed Control Valve (ISCV)is responsible for idle speed. Moves around a bit according to age, but usually tucked away low down on inlet manifold at rear of engine - access very awkward, two bolts with lower one best reached from underneath vehicle. ISCV can be removed and cleaned using carb cleaner, but not always sucessful. HOWEVER, faults on Throttle Position Sensor, Air Mass Meter, Vehicle Speed Sensor etc can also be responsible, so worth having proper diagnosis carried out before investing.

Sometimes the ISCV has gone \"out of range\". After cleaning this can be re-initialised by disconnecting battery for 15 mins . This may mean re-entering radio code. After re-connecting battery key start engine (no throttle), allow to idle to fan operating temp, then drive through gears using full throttle and 5K revs at least twice. Same procedure applies if new ISCV fitted.

Thanks Adam,

I'll try to find the ISCV and give it a clean as you recommend.

If that fails I'll go ahead with your second recommendation to get diagnostics done. Is there anyone who can do that other than Ford main dealer ??

Sorry for delay - away for a few days !Again !!

Trawl yellow pages under "Car Engine Tuning" or "Engine Tuning". Obviously all genuine Tune-Up operators can do this, but don't know where you are to make specific recommendations.
