hello,
Im new to this forum and had a question regarding a Pierburg 1b on an old golf GX (1983).
Firstly it seems to be missing the vacuum hose which connects to the distributor (is this what they call the vacuum advance/retard?) - but i didn't know where it connected to the carb/engine.
At the moment it's fast idling but i've found one of the vacuum hoses at the back of the card has completely split so will be replacing that next.
There also seems to be fluid in the top of the carb (when i take the air box off the top) - some of the fluid seems to be running down this to the air filter and there is a strong smell of petrol.
Was wondering if it's worth getting it working or just replacing the carb. The car has done 160K miles.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
cheers, Dan.

not the same I know but I have a pierburg 2e2 on a golf, might be similar?? the dizzy should have a pipe which butts into the vacuum pipe for the brake servo near the inlet manifold.
if poss its a good idea to take the carb off and replace all the pipes as mine had by and large given up after 14 years and yours are much older, this might cure a lot of stuff

thanks mate for that. I will take a look. As you say i will replace the hoses etc as they are all wearing badly.

One of my associates has a brand new weber conversion for this car sitting in his van. Open to any sensible offer to clear it.If you are local to Woking he will even come and fit it!

If you can get a replacment at a good price buy it, the carb fitted to your golf is a bad one and well known for giving problems when they get a few miles on them.
Caps Lock wording amended. Contributing to an online discussion group with the caps lock on is thought to be bad manners (it\'s a way of expressing bad temper because it looks as if you\'re shouting). DD.
