replacing auxcillary belt... i used a tyre lever to ease it off. getting new one is more brutal. Gates show special tool SFT001. their tool is very pricey for what it is and only ever going to use it a few times. any advice on alternative tool. anybody, please.

Ford used to supply the tool in the box with the new stretchy belt - but obviously you where paying genuine Ford parts counter prices.

No idea if Ford still have this practice.

You've probably seen this

Looks simple, perhaps deceptively so, and might be difficult to improvise, but maybe not impossible.

This looks easier. Wee G-clamp?

If you go to eBay and search ‘aux belt stretch tool’ or similar for around £6 you can get a tool that should do the job if you can wait for delivery

On ebay found a gates sft 001 tool copy. i thought the plastic tools might break easily. After watching videos , changed my mind. which i'd have seen the plastic ties trickbeforehand. in no hurry . wait a day or two for the tool to arrive.

i did like the video with the gaitor belt [ the quiet one] might try that on my 1.6 note next time. the are renowned squillers when left for a period or cold and wet first thiong in mornings.

cheers lads

The gadget in the first clip is the same principle as the ramps used to re-rail locos and wagons - drop onto the rail and guide the wheel.

Hello, what car is it. I know on the sigma Ford engine you can unbolt the alternator and move it forward too stretch the belt onto the pulley and then bolt it all back up

hyundai i10. 2 years back i had the alternator off . had to take the front of the car off . to get it out. on that occasion i just slipped the belt on like you said . i ve got the tool now ,but tomorrow iam tackling a transmission oil seal

This method looks good if the crack pulley has holes in it......a zip tie.

hyundai i10 102k

haynes manual shows a tyre lever to release the belt . which worked. and to replace its a reverse of remove . which didn't
