Don't laugh but my V70 has a leaking screen and my mate gave me some 'Captain Tolley's creeping crack cure'. You just apply the stuff which is runnier than water and it finds any leak, sets in a few hours to a waterproof state. Designed for boats and gets good reviews, here's hoping I've saved the price of a new screen.

This took me back about 45 years!

Comma used to make a product 'Seek 'n' Seal' in a can with a spout (similar to 3-in-1 oil). Used it several times on my old M1000 to good effect.

(Why can I remember trivia like this but forget important stuff?)

When i had my first two cars, I always had a can of radseal and i forget what it was (someone will know) the stuff for thickening oil.,wd40 and a comprehensive set of tools in the boot.

I've still a can of 'seek n seal' in the shed. STP was for thickening oil, although Prestone (IIRC) also made a similar product. It did wonders for my lever arm dampers, although it took ages to dribble some in.

On one of my first cars, an oldish Spitfire the exhaust was a bit worn and the fuel line. I used Petropatch and a heat sealing compound ( can't remember which) to great effect. Clean the area, apply a primer and a bandage soaked in the compound. Wrap around and smooth off. Leave for a while to cure. Great results. Cured the problem and I never did have to attend to it again. I also soldered the head tank seam to cure a leak. Made from brass then so quite easy to do. Probably still on when the car went to the big garage in the sky!

I used it in our shower, where the grout has shrunk slightly. Still waterproof five years on.
