Hi, I do hope you can help. I have a 99 Astra Envoy Diesel, runs well but at around 85 on the temp gauge the engine management light comes on and the system goes into safe mode. I think the cooling fan sensor may not be sending correctly. Drop down to 60mph and the system reactivates but cruise at 3000 revs and the light will stay on all day. Any help really appreciated.

Definately a speed/heat issue here.....a sensor being the most probable culprit as you say. How many miles has the car covered? A blocked radiator would produce this symptom - or restricted airflow to the radiator itself.
Are you loosing any coolant?
Is this the Isuzu engine or the GM 1.7 Low blow turbo engine?

Hi David, the car has done around 66K and its a 1.7 I take it is a Low Blow, certainly a slow go. not loosing any fluids but does take about a litre and a half of oil between services. The problem has been with the car for some while with the previous ownerI will have it on the computer next service (in 3k). just didnt want to get into an expensive hunt for the problem. Thanks for your help.

Slow Go! Like that analogy!
I'd ask for a quick fault code diagnosis at service-time - would you take it to a Vauxhall Dealership or a specialist? Try and find a good specialist with the right kit and you'll be laughing.
With a bit of luck, there will be some stored fault codes which will steer you in the right direction for a fix, hopefully cheaply!
