If it was in the UK, Id declare it. If it was overseas, Id declare it (unless Tim Kelly says you dont need to!). Why give your insurer the opportunity to refuse any future valid claim?

But that's just me.

Depends on the how the question is worded. Usually it an open request to certain if you have had 'ANY' claims in the past 5 years, even no fault claims. If you intend to mislead them you may as well not be insured. In the event of a claim they will investigate as a matter of course. If they subsequently uncover a previously undeclared claim then your claim will be refused and your policy revoked. I am not sure if the EU insurers data base can be accessed by UK companies, but be aware that a lot of these companies are underwritten by global insurers who may share information. Therefore making it difficult to hide a claim in a foreign country. It is very difficult, if not even impossible, to ascertain if and how they share information. they are highly unlikely to tell a punter. Get a quote without declaring then one after declaring. At least you will know what they charge for you being an extra risk in their calculations.

Not worth the risk.

If you were held responsible for a serious accident the results could clean you out and you would never be free of the debt.

If you cant remember the details then you could just put do not know, they only want to know if you have and can find the details out themselves.

Most insurance companies say any claim, to which you have already had the answer.

That is correct. We all go from memory for the most part. It is unusual to keep accurate and detailed records of a no fault claim in the past. If you affirm your involvement, then when they ask for details give them what you know. Car hire company, type of vehicle, approximate dates and locations etc etc. If they are curious they can investigate and get chapter and verse form the database. Your part is done with the declaration and what details you can recall. You will be able to sleep at night in the full knowledge you are covered by your policy.
