Are these even switched on? No shortage of people itching to get past when I have the cruise set at a nice 55mph indicated. Some going past at easily 70mph.

Is there some of deficiency in the system to avoid detection?

Is this when the speed limit is lower or when off or showing the national limit. If at the national limit then 55mph is a bad speed to lock in at as it's just lower than the 56mph limited speed of lorries, which they all tend to try and do. This will trigger lorry after lorry trying to slowly overtake you. Locking in at 57mph may be better.

Sorry I meant the 50mph roadworks sections with 3 (Narrow) lanes

At 55mph indicated you might get done yourself. Don't rely on the 10% +2 - technically you only have to 1mph over the limit to be prosecuted

Hasn't happened yet after 3 weeks...and why am I passed so often when doing that speed?

Tw only way to know is to drive at 70!

Last Saturday the M1 variable system was set at 40 for the Tinsley Viaduct due to the high winds.

On the approach to te viaduct I saw cameras activated twice, then as I was passing under someone in the left hand slip to Meadowhall came past at well in excess of 40 and he no doubt received a letter a few days later. Then once I had passed I saw it go off twice more,

Whoever you are thanks for your extra tax payment this year. Every little helps.
